Work Shop New Town
If you have taken a drive into Newtown lately you will have come across a relatively new venture called Work Shop New Town, which if summed up in one sentence is a place that houses over 100 local designers who are showcasing and selling their products.
The actual building that Work Shop New Town exists in used to be a potato shed that was built in 1911, photos of what this place looked like before is so interesting and what’s so great is that the architects have used the space beautifully keeping a few original structures here and there as well as adding little pockets of modern interest, which has created an architectural piece that is very pleasing to the eye.
I really like Work Shop New Town and I think the designers they have chosen to fill it are all really talented and it’s awesome to see so much local talent in one space. You will find some of the usual suspects selling their goods, but there are also a fair amount of labels that perhaps you haven’t heard of before. Some of the stalls that caught my eye were Bread and Butter, African Image, Crystal birch, Dr Pachanga, Maxhosa by Luaduma and Wolf and Maiden.
There are also a couple of really cool restaurants to try out in and around the space, which means there is plenty to do and see if you are looking to fill up a morning or afternoon.
If you are a dim sum fan then you should definitely try out Town and if you feel like something a bit more filling there is the Potato Sheds just down the way that serves everything from steaks to burgers, which come nestled in red burger buns!
