+27 Café in Pretoria
+27 Café is somewhat of an institution in Pretoria with the creative crowd and students alike. In 2008 it started out as a tiny little hole-in-the-wall coffee shop and if you walked past you would probably would not have noticed it!
In years gone by the café has hosted poetry evenings, music shows, pop-up restaurants and stocked their shelves with wonderful goodies to buy. Owners and brothers, Riaan and Hardus, have made changes, renovated, expanded and have further plans for the future.
+27 is no longer a tiny cafe and exhibition space. The space has a bit of an industrial look and feel that speaks to the building’s history when they first found it, all rundown. They have managed to transform the space with pops of yellow, homey wooden tables and shelves and lots of greenery outside. Over the years, they have added a beautiful, shady courtyard with relaxed seating, a herb garden that they use daily for their dishes, accessible plug points for those who want to work and grab a bite with accessible wifi.
They’ve managed to create a chilled out atmosphere, where students, working folk and creatives can meet over some good coffee and yummy, hearty food.
Khanya Mzongwana created some fresh items for their SUMMER ’16 menu launched this year. It was absolutely DELICIOUS! Linda and I chose to go for the veggie options and two smoothies and were thoroughly satisfied afterwards.
We definitely recommend the above is a Moringa and coconut milk smoothie and the naartjie, papaya, passionfruit smoothie, both dairy free :D. Below is a falafel salad bowl with a fresh avo rose, beetroot spread, homemade chakalaka. I could eat heaps and heaps of this!
Another chose yummy salad of hot charred broccoli and baby cabbage with kale, almonds, pickled onion, fresh seeds, microherbs and a yummy dressing. We left off the gorgonzola to make it vegan.
